Course Details

New for 2019, we have TWO course options: 77 and 50 miles of epic and very challenging off-road riding.  The 50-miler includes about 5,000 feet of climbing and the 77-miler features over 9,000 feet of climbing. The VT Monster is best attacked with a cyclocross bike, though road, mountain or fat bikes are also capable of handling the course.

This is a challenging course primarily on Vermont’s quiet gravel roads, with plenty of climbing, flowing descents and epic vistas. We’ll roll out of the Jackson Gore Lodge (Okemo Mountain) from a neutral start and head to the good stuff.

One registrations covers both options, so if you are a little light on training, your day isn’t going as planned or you’re new to gravel, you will have the option to go shorter or longer at the rest stop.  Please note: if you are not in to rest stop 2 by 1:30 pm, course crew will ask you to ride the shorter course to make sure everyone finishes safe and in the alloted time.

You’ll hit the same rest stop twice (Mile 26 and 52) that will be stocked with water, Gatorade, pickles and pickle juice, bars and gels. There is also the cutest little general store you’ve ever seen at the rest stop location, where you can buy fresh-baked cookies or other food supplies you might need.  Who doesn’t need a fresh-baked cookie?!

We provide course support, but please remember: you should be able to do this ride fully on your own.  That means carrying enough water to get you through to the rest stops, and also bringing everything you need to keep rolling:

  • Cell Phone
  • 2 spare tires/tubes
  • Frame pump or C02
  • Portable multi-tool
  • Money
  • License and credit card
  • Enough fluids and calories to make it between stops

NOTE: The course closes at 4:00 PM. If you are not through rest stop 2 (52 miles) by 1:30 pm, you will be redirected on a shorter route to the finish.  The post-ride festivities at Okemo will take place from 3:00 – 7:30 PM.
